Local Student’s Career Gets a Boost

Cayman Enterprise City (CEC) was pleased to be able to make a dream come true for local student Taija McRae at the recent Cayman Islands Marketing Professionals Association (CIMPA) Conference held 25-26 September 2018. Taija, aged 18, is currently pursuing her Associates Degree at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) and her dream job is to work at Buzzfeed, an award-winning online media company. CEC facilitated a meet-and-greet for Taija with Buzzfeed’s Executive Creative Director, Richard Alan Reid, and sponsored the student’s attendance at the two-day marketing conference.

Health Student Discovers a Passion for Details

This summer Kimberly Grant (22) who is studying Allied Health with a concentration in Medical Science at the University of Tampa (UT) has been interning with Maria Phillip, the Vice President of Client Experience & Operations at Cayman Enterprise City (CEC). Grant is learning all about database management for companies set up within CEC and for prospective clients who are looking to set up their business within Cayman’s special economic zones. This summer Grant has been assisting with the client experience portal and helping to ensure data is organised and up to date with current protocols.

Enterprise Cayman Hosts Interns at “Summer in the City” Networking Event Connecting Local Talent with Opportunities within Cayman’s Special Economic Zones Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (6 August 2018) – Cayman Enterprise City’s (CEC) Enterprise Cayman initiative hosted its annual Summer in the City networking event at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) on Thursday, 2 August 2018. The event was open to students and recent graduates who applied to the Summer in the City internship programme and offered job seekers the opportunity to meet with CEC staff and professionals working within Cayman’s special economic zones (SEZs). Students were given a chance to put their networking skills to the test and discuss their achievements and career goals. Likewise, SEZ members and CEC staff were given the opportunity to scout future talent and provide insight into their sectors.

Public Health Student Learns What Med-ic® Smart Packaging Technology Can do to Help Improve the Lives of Millions

This summer Taneil Lee (21) who is studying public health and is on a pre-medicine track at the University of South Florida (USF) has been interning with Joanne Watters, the General Manager of Intelligent Devices SEZC Inc. (IDI). Lee is learning about the importance of taking medication as prescribed. IDI’s Electronic Content Monitoring (ECM©) technology is used to track patient usage of prescribed medication.

Meet the Intern who used Artificial Intelligence to Create a Lionfish Recogniser

Matthew Elphinstone (20), who has been interning with NeuralStudio SECZ has successfully created a proof of concept for a device which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to recognise lionfish, an invasive species of fish which are now established along the southeast coast of the U.S., the Caribbean, and in parts of the Gulf of Mexico. The prototype was designed during a “Summer in the City” internship placement. Now in its sixth year, the internship programme connects young Caymanians with internship opportunities throughout Cayman Enterprise City, Special Economic Zones (CEC).

As Cayman Enterprise City Grows, So Does Cayman’s Local Economy

Cayman Enterprise City (CEC) and the special economic zones (SEZs) continue to significantly impact the Cayman Islands’ economy. To date the development project has contributed an estimated US $155.16 million to Cayman’s economy ($113.01 million in direct spending and $42.15 million indirectly). Last year alone CEC contributed an estimated US $41.56 million. The 2017 figures reflect a 9.4% increase over 2016’s $37.6 million. The announcement, in keeping with a commitment CEC made in its first year to disclose its local economic impact annually, is the latest report of seven — the first released in 2011.

Cayman Enterprise City’s Enterprise Cayman initiative is now accepting applications for its annual “Summer in the City” internship programme. Now in its sixth year the programme aims to place 20+ young people with internship opportunities throughout Cayman Enterprise City (CEC) and the special economic zones (SEZs), which include: Cayman Tech City, Cayman Commodities & Derivatives City, and Cayman Maritime & Aviation City. To participate interested candidates can visit the Enterprise Cayman website and apply online. The deadline to apply is 31 March 2018.
