Frederick Robson, Jack Copper Technology 2025 Summer Intern
In honour of the late Jack Copper, Enterprise Cayman launched the Jack Copper Technology Internship, a 2–3 month summer placement within the Cayman Enterprise City (CEC) Information Technology Department. Created as part of our Summer Internship Programme, the internship celebrates Jack Copper’s extraordinary contributions to CEC and the Cayman Islands’ tech and innovation sectors. Meet Frederick Robson, the first recipient of this prestigious internship.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what you're currently studying or pursuing?
I’m a young Caymanian currently studying at Cardiff Metropolitan University. I’m in my second year of a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. I’ve always been passionate about technology and problem-solving, and I’m working toward a career in the IT industry. My goal is to find a role that challenges me, allows me to stay innovative, and gives me opportunities to make a meaningful impact through technology.
What inspired you to apply for the Enterprise Cayman Summer Internship Programme, and specifically the Jack Copper Technology Internship?
I applied for the Jack Copper Internship because I wanted to take what I’ve learned at university and apply it in a real-world environment. The opportunity to work with Cayman Enterprise City really stood out to me. I knew it would expose me to current technologies, give me hands-on experience, and allow me to explore different areas within IT. I was especially drawn to the idea of working in a collaborative, forward-thinking tech environment where I could both contribute and learn.
What has your experience been like working with the Cayman Enterprise City IT Department so far? What were some of your key responsibilities?
Some of my main responsibilities included creating and submitting work orders, using professional tools like AutoCAD, and even testing a chatbot during its development stage. These projects helped me understand how IT supports business operations and gave me a more complete view of how technology is used in practice.
It’s been an eye-opening experience. The IT department at CEC has introduced me to a variety of tasks and challenges that go beyond what I encounter at university.

What new skills or knowledge have you gained during your internship that you feel will be valuable moving forward?
This internship has been incredibly valuable for both my technical and interpersonal development. On the technical side, I’ve improved my understanding of programming, hardware systems, and networking. Just as importantly, I’ve developed my soft skills, particularly in areas like communication, teamwork, and critical thinking. I’ve learned how to approach problems more strategically and how to contribute effectively within a professional team environment.
What has been a highlight of your internship experience? Have there been any memorable learning moments?
One of the standout moments of my internship was being invited to speak as a panel member during a Tech Talk, where we discussed how Gen Z feels as we prepare to enter the workforce. It was an amazing opportunity to share my perspective, build confidence in public speaking, and connect with professionals in the industry. That experience really boosted my confidence and showed me that I have a voice and valuable insights to contribute.
In what ways has this internship helped you grow personally or professionally?
Professionally, it gave me hands-on experience that I can build on as I continue my studies and eventually enter the workforce. It taught me how to adapt to different tasks, communicate more effectively, and take ownership of my work.
Personally, I feel more confident in my abilities and more focused on the type of career I want to pursue. Being part of a professional environment helped me mature and see what’s possible when you apply yourself.
How was your overall experience?
My overall experience at Cayman Enterprise City has been amazing. From day one, I felt welcomed and supported by the team. I was encouraged to ask questions, explore different areas of IT, and take initiative. The culture here is collaborative, innovative, and incredibly motivating.
What advice would you give to other young Caymanians interested in tech careers or applying for the Jack Copper Internship in the future?
If you're a young Caymanian interested in tech, I would highly recommend the Jack Copper Technology Internship. It offers a wide range of learning opportunities and experiences that go far beyond what you typically get through school or university education. It’s a chance to explore different tech disciplines, build valuable skills, and connect with people who are passionate about shaping the future of the industry. My advice is to be open to learning, ask questions, and make the most of every opportunity. This program could be a great steppingstone into a successful career in technology.
